10 Week Appointment!

Matt and I just left our second OB appointment! I had my full exam, and all's  well with the baby and I. We were able to hear the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler- 165 beats/minute!! We thought it sounded fast at week 6 (120 beats/minute), but this week it was galloping even faster. The doctor was able to feel my uterus through my lower stomach and confirmed that the baby is growing at a healthy rate.

We start our centering program in 2 weeks! This is where we meet and get to know other couples who are also due in the month of September. During our centering meetings, we will meet with the doctor to measure my belly and hear the baby's heartbeat. I'm looking forward to meeting other new, young mothers!

At 20 weeks (the end of April), Matt and I will have our second ultrasound where we will find out the gender. Can't wait!! It was another fun and exciting day in mommy hood!

Week 9 and Feeling Fine!

Well...mostly! This week was a major turning point for my aching belly. I'm hoping to continue feeling more and more "normal" over the next few weeks. While my appetite isn't quite what it used to be, I'm finding myself more interested in eating a greater number of foods (like Kline's cookies and cream homemade ice cream)! :)

Mom and dad came to visit this weekend and we had a blast! We played cornhole and barbecued in the 65 degree sun. During Cranium that night, I rolled all blues...was this a sign? My dad thinks so! Afterwards, we decided to do the gender test where you hold your wedding ring on a string over your belly. Sure enough...the ring circled over my belly. That means we're having a boy!!!

Matt and I have 2 more days until our next appointment and I cannot wait another minute! Although we won't find out the gender, we will get to see the baby moving. Time moves so slow when you're expecting something SO EXCITING. We'll post sonogram pictures on Tuesday!

Adios, Week 8!

We survived another week in the first trimester! With week 8 under our belts, we're hoping for an easier week 9. This week our baby is the size of an olive or large grape (a whole inch long) from head to rump! We have one more week until we get to visit with our little one again in the ultrasound room. We can't wait!!

We had some time to work on the nursery this weekend due to 2 more snow days! We got roughly 18 inches in Staunton.

We finished painting out alphabet frames above our changing table. Take a look!

I'm still struggling with my broken appetite, but I've made room for some very interesting (and delicious) meal choices. Matt and I had Hawaiian pizza on Valentines Day at The Bistro and French toast, sausage and bacon for breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday morning. :)

As for this weekend, it's been pretty quiet! Matt and I spent some quality time together and caught up on some R&R. Life is good and will continue to get better each day!

Love you, little one.

XO, Mom

Two Words: TIRED and SICK!

It's been an entire week since I've posted and there's a reason... I feel terrible!  Morning sickness and exhaustion settled in quickly during week seven.  (Even writing about it makes me nauseous!)

I'm feeling sick all day, but it's definitely worse in the morning.  I cannot imagine anything that seems appetizing enough to eat.  I feel like I'm gagging down every meal.  Once my stomach is full, I feel better, but I know the relief is short-lived.  On top of my never-ending stomachache, I'm SO tired.  I don't realize how tired I am until I sit down at night.  I'm in bed (and by bed I mean passed out on the couch) between 7:30-8:00 every night.

I have to remind myself that this is all part of being pregnant.  This is what makes it feel real.  All of my books are reminding me that when you're feeling these symptoms, it's a sign that the baby is healthy and growing.  This makes it all worth it, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not counting down the days until the second trimester.  :)

Tomorrow I will be 8 weeks pregnant!  Our baby is the size of a large raspberry and tips the scale (finally!) at .04 oz.  During this week, baby is growing a millimeter each day.  Although I can't feel it, the baby is moving his or her arms and legs like crazy and taste buds are forming.  Hopefully the baby has a better appetite than mom!

P.S.  We shared the news with our friends at our joint birthday party at the cabin last weekend!   I was able to fool them until everyone had arrived by sipping on an alcohol-free Moscato, compliments of my mother-in-law.  Everyone was surprised and very excited!  We celebrated our birthdays and the news of our little one with our closest friends by the bonfire.   Cheers!  :)
